Human Nature

Human nature is innate; it is how you are born and what's inside of you.

This is different than nuture, the way you are brought up and adapt to your environment.

All human's strive to be successful; we try to make the best of our lives.

There are both good and bad sides to our nature. All humans have traits like greed and jealousy deep down, but it depends on how we act on this part of our nature.

It is our nature to protect our loved one's, like a mother bird protects her young chick.

A flower's nature is to open so that it can be pollinated by other animals and be successful.

Some flowers grow higher than others to be closer to the sun- like how humans strive to get higher in life by having a better job and making more money.

Animals can steal food from one another to survive. Humans can embrace this part of their nature and steal to get what they want.

All humans want companionship. We need relationships in our lives.

  1. Some good notes here on nature vs. nurture and how human nature compares to outdoor nature. How would these observations be used in or strengthen a past or future writing assignment? The need for companionship and the drive for success are definitely qualities that could motivate a character in a short story.

  2. When you say a mother and her chick, you are so right. Good comparisons between nature vs. human nature! My favourite is the growing higher and achieving more.

  3. Interesting point that some parts of human nature lie in our origins as animals, ie, stealing food. All humans want companionship. This is a strong statement. What about those who are hermits and prefer a solitary life?

  4. Hayley - I agree with Maggie! My favorite line is "Some flowers grow higher than others to be closer to the sun- like how humans strive to get higher in life by having a better job and making more money." It is very true and it is also based on greed, like you expressed in one of your lines, and it's a great human nature vs. nature comparison!
